LETTER TO SANTA: With Your Very Own Special Letter

Sparkly golden lettering, this big picture book has actual envelopes inside with beautiful writing paper: 'Dear Santa' held by a cheeky mouse with 'Love From' above an illustration of a glass of milk and some festive biscuits and lines for the child to write all the good things they have done this year and the presents that you would like Santa to bring. 'It was Christmas Eve and Jenny and her little brother James were writing a letter to Santa. Wriggling and giggling, they drew silly pictures of Rudolph.' Downstairs, Mouse scurried out of his hole and onto the table... Later that night, there was a rumble and a bump. Santa Claus had tumbled down the chimney with his big sack of presents. The characters are beautifully drawn in colourful and appealing illustrations for ages two to seven. Two letters. 9" square.

CHRISTMAS CAROL

"Bah, humbug" said Scrooge. Scrooge has always thought money is more important than people. Can one night full of ghosts change his mind forever? "Marley was dead, to begin with. Scrooge knew he was dead. He had been partners with him for many years and Scrooge was his sole executor, his sole administrator, his sole assign, his sole residuary legatee, his sole friend and sole mourner. And even Scrooge was not so dreadfully cut up by the sad event, but that he was an excellent man of business on the very day of the funeral, and solemnised it with an undoubted bargain." A somewhat disturbing book about money and can it make people bad or can money be used for good, about belief in ghosts and if you think that what Scrooge got he deserved. A Scholastic children's publication, 126pp.

GIFT FROM BOB

How a street cat helped one man learn the meaning of Christmas by the bestselling author of 'A Street Cat Named Bob'. This poignant new story records James's last Christmas spent on the street, busking and selling the Big Issue with his cat Bob, before his life changed forever. In 2010, the weather was as bleak as his prospects. Christmas had always been the time he dreaded but now at least James had Bob by his side, and his friend Belle, but his health was poor and he had no money for food or warmth. There was no choice but to venture out onto the frozen streets to earn enough for his electricity and, with luck, afford some small treats for Christmas as well. What James learned through this toughest of times was to give his new life with Bob, and Christmas, a meaning it had never had before. As the Grinch said in Dr Seuss, Christmas 'doesn't come from a store'. Everyone can learn that the world can be a better place even when faced with hardship among the most vulnerable in society. An emotional and thought-provoking quick read in glamorous spangly hardback with cat decorated endpapers. 174pp, illus.

THE CHRISTMAS BOOKS

Composed in 1843, Dickens said he "Wept and laughed and wept again" transported by the emotional power of Ebenezer Scrooge's transformation from misanthrope to man of goodwill. His subsequent Christmas books The Chimes, The Cricket on the Hearth, The Battle of Life and The Haunted Man feature with the author's final texts and the illustrations Dickens himself selected to complement his words. Artists include Richard Doyle, John Leech, Daniel Maclise, Clarkson Stanfield, John Tenniel and Phiz. Etchings and wood engravings, beautifully typeset, with marginalia and cursive script, many illustrations are full page and there are four beautiful full page colour plates including Mr. Fezziwig's Ball and The Last of the Spirits. The five stories were originally published in separate volumes between 1843 and 1848.
