Another in the famous Teach Yourself series, the book is packed with ideas that will drive you and the confidence you might be lacking to write well about sex. That is difficult even for the most experienced authors and the book helps you craft believable, steamy and readable erotic fiction whether you have written before or are a complete beginner. Think about your favourite sexual fantasy, right now. Did an image flicker across your mind or a series of images? There's a good chance that, deep down, the very thought of that fantasy tiggered a physical reaction. Humans are sexual beings with big brains. We love stories and this is the premise behind erotic fiction. Today there is a revolution with online shopping and the eReader which has changed the game. Fifty Shades of Grey by E. L. James was openly passed on to friends and the previously uninitiated gorged themselves and now we are all, frankly, hungry. The chapters have a practical outlook and there are several kinds of exercise - snapshot which are short and sweet carrying out fun tasks listing your sexual fantasies or likes; workshop exercises that are longer and more structured for a short story; writing exercises which are the most rewarding; editing exercises to help you review, critique and improve your work and focus points to help you hone in on the main ideas of each chapter. Get writing your Big Sexy List and enjoy the memories as you develop character, plot, setting, theme, scenes and point of view. With super quotes from published authors throughout and tips and excellent examples plus advice on self-publishing on an electronic platform, blogging, tweeting, raising your profile and generating that all-important word-of-mouth success. 240pp, paperback.

SEX AND THE CITY OF LADIES: Cleopatra, Lucrezia Borgia

Book number: 90792 Product format: Hardback Author: LISA HILTON

In stock

Bibliophile price £2.50
Published price £7.99

In 1405 Christine de Pisan took up the pen to defend her maligned sex. Her book, The City of Ladies, was built around preserving women's reputations from the slights and misunderstandings of history. In it the author is visited by three spirits - Justice, Rectitude and Reason - who guide her in sifting through countless lives, in search of worthy citizens. Lisa Hilton picks up the book and promptly falls asleep, only to be visited by three great women from history: Cleopatra, Lucrezia Borgia and Catherine the Great. The 15th century writer Christine de Pisan, celebrated as the first feminist, wrote her book claiming to defend the reputations of women to whom history has been unkind. In this beguiling slim volume Lisa Hilton revisits Christine's work, imagining a dreamlike procession of famous women all heading towards Christine's city. When Lucrezia Borgia offers tea, Lisa is a little too quick to refuse, while Lucrezia explains that the famed Borgia poisonings are in fact the stuff of legend. Meanwhile, Cleopatra comes clean, admitting that she poisoned her brother Ptolemy on her ruthless career towards the throne of Egypt. "Whirlwind romance. Single mother. Again", sniffs Cleo, recalling her affair with Antony. Lucrezia, the "greatest whore of Rome", was briefly in charge of the Vatican while Pope Alexander was away from Rome, but Catherine de Medici, on the other hand, asks nothing better than a nice game of billiards in the evening. Although her marriage was notoriously unsuccessful she tactfully but disappointingly omitted most of her lovers from her memoirs. Here is a reassessment of the past, in which deeds and reputations, rumours and reality are held up to the light, and history is wrested back from the distortions of misogyny. 92pp.

An unashamedly romantic cheek-dabbing novel. Every prince has his secrets and she is determined to unravel his. Every dashing young man in London is vying for Lady Caroline Hawke's hand, except one. The handsome, delectable, rogue Prince Leopold of Alucia can't quite remember who Caroline is, and the insult is not to be tolerated. So Caroline does what any clever, resourceful lady of means would do to make sure a prince remembers her - sees that amusingly risqué morsels about Leo's reputation are printed in a ladies' gossip gazette, all the while secretly setting her cap for the rakish royal. Someone has been painting Leo as a blackguard, but who they ask? Socially it could ruin him. More importantly it could jeopardise his investigation into a contemptible scheme that reaches the highest levels of government in London. Now Leo needs Lady Caroline's help to regain access to society, but this charming prince is about to discover that enlisting the deceptively sweet and sexy Lady Caroline might just cost him his heart, his soul and both their reputations. A sexy and scandalous historical romance for fans of Bridgerton and The Crown. 379pp, paperback.

In the 1950s and 1960s, Emmanuelle Arsan offered a radical portrait of an uninhibited young woman. Free from moral judgements and devoted to the pleasure of her body and mind, one of the most famous French characters of the 20th century, Emmanuelle has become the bestselling erotic cult classic, selling more than a million copies worldwide. Emmanuelle II further chronicles the daring heroine's rousing initiation into the ecstasies of love and sex against the exotic backdrop of Thailand. It succeeds like few novels before in transforming erotic fantasies into works of enticing literary merit and it was written by a husband and wife team under a pseudonym to conceal the identity of the French diplomat stationed in Thailand. 'All time spent in other pursuits than that of making love, embraced by an ever-increasing number of arms, is time lost.' Enjoy this sensational and sensual sequel. Alongside The Story of O, it is a classic book of erotica and the most famous French underground novel of the late 20th century. 382pp, paperback.

'Was it the bourbon or the dye fumes that made the pink walls quiver like vaginal lips?' Greeted as shocking, daring and scandalous on publication in 1922, the swirl of bourbon, dyed blonde hair and vaginal lips is audacious, but also feminist camp, and writing which moved with invention and forcefulness into a new field like other outlaw writers Jean Genet and William S. Burroughs. Turning wine vomit into glittering burgundy ribbon, as in 'Pig's head dropped lower. She gagged and a long line of glittering burgundy ribboned down the stairwell.' Set in the San Francisco of the early 90s, of the Lusty Lady, like all of Steinke's novels, this has been lauded for its 'gorgeous prose'. Jesse is a 29 year old adrift in San Francisco's demi-monde of sexually ambitious, drug-taking outsiders, desperately trying to sustain a connection with her bisexual boyfriend. She becomes caretaker and confidante to Madame Pig, a grotesque, besotted recluse. Jesse also meets Madison, Pig's daughter or lover or both, who uses others' desires for her own purposes, and who leads Jesse into a world beyond all boundaries. An intensely erotic story of one woman's sexual and psychological odyssey, and a modern cult classic. The New York Times said, 'Hallucinatory, dystopian... A disturbing, poisonous fable.' 180pp, paperback.

'It is a beautiful story of personal triumph over toxic nonsense of religious homophobia.' - Nicky Campbell. Vicky Beeching began writing songs for the church in her teens and by 30 she was a household name in churches on both sides of the Atlantic. But this poster girl for evangelical Christianity lived with an inner battle - she was gay. She knew if she ever spoke about her identity it would cost her everything. But despite losing so much she gained far more, she was finally able to live from a place of wholeness, vulnerability and authenticity and found peace and became a champion for others, fighting for LGBT equality in the church and beyond. She urges people to celebrate diversity, live authentically and become 'undivided'. As Steve Jobs said in 2005 'Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice... Have courage.' This book may not be just about sexual identity, but also of broader mental health issues, if you are on the autistic spectrum, always known you are trans but never dared tell anyone, fear chasing your dreams and keeping things private because it feels safer and less embarrassing. Time to share with the brave young woman. 288pp, paperback.

How far would he go? And how far did I want him to? You can rid yourself of the wolf at the door, but what do you do when the wolf is in your bed? Two identical twin sisters, one a sexually repressed defence attorney, the other a former libertine now living a respectable life in suburbia, are about to have their darkest secrets revealed to the men in their lives and to themselves. As one sister prepares for the toughest trial of her career and the other faces a stalker who knows details of her life that even her husband doesn't, the sisters both find themselves pushed to the edge and confronted by discoveries about their husbands that shock and disturb them. The novel is an intense, psychologically penetrating tale of fears and fantasies, the desires that drive us, and how far men will go for the women they love. Elissa Wald is a veteran of what vanilla reviewers call 'the S/M scene' and she brings new meaning to the term 'literary submission.' A good erotic read, 218pp in paperback.

WILLIAM BLAKE'S SEXUAL PATH TO SPIRITUAL VISION

Book number: 91763 Product format: Paperback Author: MARSHA KEITH SCHUCHARD

In stock

Bibliophile price £9.00
Published price $19.95

Miranda Seymour in the Sunday Times said 'Schuchard places Blake at the heart of a secret London as high on spiritualized sexuality as San Francisco in the 'summer of love'.' William Blake (1757-1827) has long been treasured as an artist and poet whose work was born out of authentic spiritual vision. The acutely personal almost otherworldly look at his artwork, combined with its archetypal casting and depth of emotion, transcends social convention and ordinary experience. The book breaks new ground investigating the psycho-sexual practices that surrounded this famous artist. Schuchard's fastidious research includes new archival discoveries of Blake family documents, and reveals how early Moravian and Swedenborgian erotic and visionary experimentation fuelled much of Blake's creative and spiritual life, and found expression in the explicit sexual imagery of his art. Much of this was lost to posterity, when religious conservatives pressured Blake's pious executor to oppress all overtly sexual aspects of his work, and which was subsequently altered or destroyed. The latest findings combined with advances in photographic techniques used in modern-day art research reveal this previously censored imagery. The discoveries support the belief that Blake explored kabbalistic and tantric extramarital sexual practices that were designed to transcend the bonds of social convention, and that he pressured his wife to join him in these explorations. The book provides a new context for understanding the mystical practices at the heart of his most radical beliefs about sexualised spirituality and its relation to visionary art. In this way the book bravely explores the 'sexual-spiritual underworld' and is a fascinating history of both the erotic and the occult, a weird esoteric, erotic and apocalyptic counter-culture brewing in an otherwise 'enlightened' 18th century. 'The closing insights into the refusal of Blake's libido to synchronise with his fading physicality are deeply moving.' - The Telegraph. Well illustrated large softback with index, 398pp. Includes graphic woodcut illus. such as Lord George Riot suffering a clipping to become a Jew, James Gillray's Love In A Coffin (1784) and anatomical drawings of the penis and scrotum. 398pp, large softback.

KAMA SUTRA: Satin Bound Edition

Book number: 91689 Product format: Hardback Author: TRANS. BY RICHARD F. BURTON

Bibliophile price £7.50
Published price £14.99

Decorated with exquisite Indian miniatures in colour, many of the most explicit sexual kind, the reputation of the Kama Sutra (Aphorisms on Love) has gained a reputation as a manual for the sexually adventurous. Yet prior to the 1960s this 3rd century Sanskrit text had been virtually unknown in the English speaking world and its circulation limited to a few privately published, under-the-counter editions. It was the chance discovery in the late 19th century by Sir Richard Burton (1821-1890) the British diplomat, explorer and orientalist that brought it to the West. The word Kama actually refers to sensual pleasure in general and is one of the four goals of life of Hinduism. The three others are religious duty and conduct, or Dharma, worldly status and spiritual liberation. It was not until the 15th century that various sexual positions began to be illustrated in miniature paintings and many of those accompanying the present text were produced in the studios of Rajasthan, strongly influenced by Mughal art. Burton's translation here appears in abridged form with the pros and cons of certain positions omitted together with Part Six which contained advice for the courtesan on getting rid of unwanted lovers. Here are embraces, union of males and females, of one's own wife, on the wives of other peoples and the arts of seduction, tonic medicines etc. It is all about love, pleasure and sensual gratification, and this edition pleases on every level. 160 large pages, gorgeous erotic colour illustrations, decorative borders and beautiful design. The binding is in pale cream silk satin with purple embossed and foiled title on the cover with paisley-style decoration. First time reduced by special arrangement direct with the publisher.
