CHRISTMAS FOR BEGINNERS
Romance, quirky humour and animals, here is a charming festive story full of quirky characters and it's often laugh-out-loud funny. Publisher's Weekly: 'Ornery llamas, attack sheep and a wealth of colourful country characters (including a spectacular hairdresser-to-the-stars who coifs alpacas in his down time) electrify Matthews's charming tale...perfect for lovers of small-town romance.' Owner Molly Baker is organising a festive fundraiser, but with an anti-social sheep, awkward alpacas and a seriously sequined Santa Claus to assemble, she is feeling overwhelmed and in desperate need of some Christmas spirit. Despite the chaos of the farm interfering with her event planning, Molly is looking forward to a family Christmas, hopeful that the holidays will bring the family together, but Shelby it seems has ideas of his own. TALE OF PETER RABBIT (Holiday Edition)
The much-loved character of Peter Rabbit originated with a Christmas Card, and this edition of the classic tale includes Christmas endpapers, as in the original version. The naughty Peter Rabbit has no intention of following his siblings Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail down the lane to gather blackberries. Before she goes out to buy currant buns, his mother warns them that on no account are they to go into their neighbour Mr McGregor's garden, because Mr McGregor has previously caught Mr Rabbit and put him into a pie. But Peter is unable to resist, gorging himself on lettuces, radishes and parsley, and when Mr McGregor spots him he hides in a watering can and other nooks and crannies in one of the great classic chases of literature, losing his shoes and jacket in the process. Back home, he is sent to bed with camomile tea, while Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail enjoy their blackberries with milk. Gorgeously illustrated with Potter's own inimitable watercolour drawings. 70pp.

COPING WITH CHRISTMAS: A Fabulously Festive Christmas
The English restaurant critic, TV chef and writer Fanny Cradock attained the status of culinary icon for her trademark style, unforgettable quips ("This won't break you!"), thin arched eyebrows and bossiness to her beleaguered husband Johnnie. Although she died in 1994, her witticisms and wisdom live on from a career that spanned over three decades, TV appearances and over 20 books which sold in enormous numbers. She took pride in elevating British cuisine to Escoffier standards and famously gave every dish a French name. In this new edition of her classic 1968 guide, stuffed full of jolly recipes, decorations and plans, Fanny describes how the hostess's role is as much set designer and theatre director as caterer. Obsessively thrifty and determined to Make an Impression, she can't resist taking things too far - if something can be filled, covered in aspic or deep-fried, it usually is. There's a whole chapter of 'Slap Happy Crisis Substitutes For Serious Cookery' and all told with her caustic wit and overblown attention to detail. Includes light luncheons and suppers for Christmas Day, Christmas dinner itself, children's Christmas parties' menu and the Christmas buffet with recipes themselves grouped by Soup, Fish, Meat, Game and Poultry, Savoury Sauces, Vegetables, Salads, Puddings, Sweet Sauces, Cakes, Pastries and Icings, Sweetmeats and Accompaniments plus wines and hot and cold drinks, emergency supplies and fridge-freezer essentials. She even included the best way to make mince pies from a 1777 receipt book and has such delicacies as Snails in Puff Pastry and Gironde Oysters and Sausages, Flemish Gammon or Ham in Beer and roasting your Christmas bird and the details of when to carve. Keep Calm and Fanny On! 330pp.

NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS & OTHER FESTIVE FAVOURITES
Clement C. Moore's classic A Night Before Christmas or Account of A Visit From St Nicholas begins ''Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; the stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there. The children were nestled all snug in their beds while visions of sugarplums danced in their heads...' Exquisitely drawn silhouette illustrations show the house with the spinning wheel in the attic, a child kneeling in prayer, the rocking horse, the parents in their room. Each room is beautifully decorated, the tree in the hallway by the sweeping staircase and the stockings hanging on the mantlepiece over the chimney, the church and bare trees in the background. With sometimes black night-sky pages, Santa and the reindeer with their beautiful antlers, a half moon and spiny trees cutaway in white turn to black and red on white on the next page as we read 'Now, Dasher! Now, Dancer! Now, Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! On, Cupid! On, Donner and Blitzen!' The second story is The Nutcracker page 35 and finally Jingle Bells on page 61 by James Lord Pierpont, and all three stories in these exquisite silhouette black and white illustrations with flashes of bright green for the Christmas trees and red for presents, gold for clock faces and decorations and lit windows. Natee Puttapipat was born in Thailand and is one of our finest book illustrators, here capturing all the magic and excitement of Christmas. For youngsters or adult collectors, 78 page Walker Book.
