This practical book aims to help people to understand how Feng Shui, the Chinese art of geomancy, can make a huge difference to their surroundings and their happiness in them. The words themselves mean wind and water, and Feng Shui is an art based on the idea of understanding the energy flow within your environment. Reading the earth was important for early nomadic peoples, and the Pyramids, Stonehenge, the Oracle at Delphi and other ancient sites are all aligned with the rhythms of the earth, involving complex calculations relating to the movements of the stars and solar system. What are the main features of your location? Do they protect your back and sides or do they overpower you? A well-known example is Buckingham Palace, where the chi or energy rushing down the Mall is broken by a fountain in front of the palace. A footpath or other feature can often be used to divert an overwhelming chi. The external shape of a construction can be modified in accordance with Feng Shui principles to conform with the Later Lo Map, consisting of eight trigrams characterised by entities such as wealth, fame, relationships, inner knowledge and career. Nine basic cures are suggested for a home that is out of balance, for instance a heavy object to anchor the chi. If the stairs are opposite the front door you can introduce a chandelier, wind chimes or a mirror to slow down the escape of chi. The author also covers ley lines, geological faults and the management of electricity. 206pp, paperback, diagrams.
