SCENES FROM THE BIBLE

This large deluxe hardback edition with stencilled page edges presents well known, dramatic and beautiful scenes from the Bible, illustrated by celebrated artist and illustrator, Gustave Doré. Gustave Doré was one of the 19th century's most celebrated engravers and his Bible illustrations are considered by many to be his best work. 180 of Doré's Bible engravings are reproduced here together with appropriate texts from the Old and New Testaments and Apocrypha in the King James Version of 1611, with a brief explanation of each engraving's main theme. "The Creation of Light" is a splendid study of massing clouds, while "Adam and Eve Driven Out of Eden" focuses on a sword-bearing angel in dramatic silhouette.
