HIGH HISTORY OF THE HOLY GRAIL

First published in English in 1898, this beautiful facsimile edition in the Lost Library series is a translation from a 13th century manuscript. It is the original story of Sir Perceval and the Holy Grail, written in Old French by an unknown author. The work concludes with the aim that: 'The Latin from whence this history was drawn into Romance was taken into the Isle of Avalon, in a holy house of religion that stands at the head of the Moors Adventurous, there where King Arthur and Queen Guinivere lay, according to the witness of the good men religious that are therein, that have the whole history thereof, true from the beginning even to the end.' This is a radically heterodox version of the Grail Legend, which provides a vibrant element of a corpus seen as 'a psychological expression of an extraordinary stirring of the unconscious'. It is a stirring story of a quest with all the important Arthurian characters - Queen Guinivere, Lancelot, Gawain and of course King Arthur himself. 298 page paperback.
