ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ANTIQUE CARPETS

ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ANTIQUE CARPETS

ABRAHAM LEVI MOHEBAN    Book Number: 91367    Product format: Hardback

Sub-titled 'Twenty-Five Centuries of Weaving', this is a spectacular two volume set, slipcased and presented in a mailing carton and produced by the Princeton Architectural Press. There are no less than 600 entries on carpet and rug weaving cities, towns, villages, artists, tribes and nomads giving information on history, location, weaving period, technique, quality, design, coloration, size and marketability of carpets produced around the world in 618 entries. Each includes photographs identifying each carpet and its unique designs. The quality of the over 1,000 colour illustrations is remarkable given the ambitious scope of the encyclopaedia. The entries are primarily on pile rugs and flat weaves from the Middle East, but also rugs from Europe and America and useful information on developments and changes in later production of each rug type. Produced in 2016, the monetary values given for the many examples illustrated will stand as a record of carpet values into the early 21st century. Even if you don't own an oriental carpet we are all fascinated by the artistry and industry and whether you are in the trade or an art lover, fascinated by design. US import.
