BUT SERIOUSLY: An Autobiography

BUT SERIOUSLY: An Autobiography

JOHN MCENROE    Book Number: 88583    Product format: Paperback

A book we seed at number one. 15 years after his massive bestseller Serious, John McEnroe came back and was ready to talk about the game of tennis, its winners and losers. What's it like playing guitar on stage with the Rolling Stones? Hitting balls with today's greats? Breaking bread with his former on-court nemeses? Getting scammed by an international art dealer? Raising a big family while balancing McEnroe-sized expectations? Blending anecdotal reflection with razor sharp and brutally honest opinions, this is the sports book of the year, brilliantly funny and surprisingly touching ? 100% McEnroe. The great sportsman has now forged a second career as an opinionated, well-informed commentator and analyst but it should not be forgotten just how scintillating a player he was, especially on grass. 274pp in paperback with colour and mono photos.

This book was readable. However, many of the chapters followed a similar format describing tennis matches and rivalry between old adversaries. Whilst I realise this was a biography of a tennis player I would have hoped for more variety. What I did learn was that John Mcenroe is also a dealer in art and is very knowledgeable about this subject. Whilst this was a reasonable read I wouldn't pick it up to read again.
