ANCIENT WISDOM

ANNIE BESANT    Book Number: 85571    Product format: Paperback

The classic introduction to Theosophy first published in 1897 and here in 2017 careful facsimile reprint of the original, an outline to Theosophical Teachings. Annie Besant (née Wood) was born in London in 1847 to middle class parents of Irish origin. She died in 1933 aged 86. Following the death of her father when Annie was only five, she was placed in the care of a family friend, Ellen Marryat. She received a good education and was imbued with a fiercely independent spirit. As well as being a Theosophist and writer, she was also a prominent British socialist, women's rights activist, orator and supporter of Irish and Indian self-rule. 'Right thought is necessary to right conduct, right understanding to right living and the Divine Wisdom - whether called by its Sanskrit name of Brahma Vidya, or its modern Greek name of Theosophia, Theosophy comes to the world as at once an adequate philosophy, and an all-embracing religion and ethic.' - Annie Besant. She looks at the astral plane, and mental plane, the Buddhic and Nirvanic planes, reincarnation, Karma, the law of sacrifice and 'Building a Kosmos'. 338pp in facsimile reprinted paperback.
