Growing up in a distinctly well-connected branch of the British aristocracy, Lady Georgiana Lennox looked up to the 1st Duke of Wellington as more than a mere family friend. They first met on his return from India when he was serving under Georgy's father as Chief Secretary and, with a 26 year age gap, the nature of the relationship is not believed to have been overtly romantic despite the Duke's adulterous reputation. In 1813, the Lennox family relocated to Brussels and Georgy's mother The Duchess of Richmond hosted the famous ball which came to represent the final moments of peace before the fateful outbreak of the Battles of Quatre Bras and Waterloo in June 1815. Georgy was beautiful, immensely popular, and with many suitors. Aged 29 she married the future 23rd Baron de Ros who became a diplomatic spy, and later Deputy Lieutenant of the Tower of London. Georgy had three children and died at the impressive age of 96. The book is richly decorated and features both coloured and black and white photos and illustrations. 301pp.
