ADVENTURES OF PINOCCHIO

ADVENTURES OF PINOCCHIO

CARLO COLLODI    Book Number: 83109    Product format: Hardback

'Lies, my boy, are known in a moment. There are two kinds of lies, lies with short legs and lies with long noses. Yours, just now, happen to have long noses.' This delightfully illustrated edition of one of our best-loved tales tells of the naughty marionette who was carved by carpenter Geppetto from a piece of magical wood. Pinocchio runs away, meeting many creatures, some sinister, some friendly. A fairy knows he is fibbing about some gold, as his nose just grows and grows until he cannot get through the doorway. Angry at first, she later takes pity on him and calls on a thousand woodpeckers to peck it back to size. This edition begins with a short biography of the author, explaining how originally Pinocchio appeared as a serial for an Italian children's newspaper and at first had a dark ending. This novel is very different to the 1940 Disney film, and is full of suspense - and no songs! - but, as in all good fairy tales, has a happy ending. With glorious colour illustrations by Robert Ingpen. 208pp. Ages 7-9 or adult collectors.
