FROM HITLER'S U-BOATS TO KHRUSHCHEV'S SPYFLIGHTS

CHRIS CLARK    Book Number: 82909    Product format: Hardback

Sub-titled '25 Years with Flight Lieutenant Thomas Buchanan Clark RAF', this book tells of his illustrious Royal Air Force career as a World War Two gunner and post-war signaller. Clark saw action in some of the 20th century's most pivotal events and the book is lovingly penned by his son providing insight into this dynamic period of world history. From work as an air gunner involved in the daunting task of taking on the might of Hitler's U-boat fleet, to post-war involvement in an Intelligence capacity during the dramatic events surrounding Khrushchev and the atomic threat of the late 1950s, Clark was destined to take part in a whole range of wartime operational engagements. He was involved in the famous 1941 hunt for the elusive Bismarck, saw danger as part of an Air Sea Rescue squadron in conflicted waters, and trained as a gunnery leader (later instructor), training for the famed Desert Air Force. He also took in a fraught period behind enemy lines when his crew of four were shot down in enemy territory in Northern Italy. Seven weeks in a safehouse in Florence are relayed in an engaging and dramatic style plus a raft of other personal and professional achievements. There are dozens of rare photographs plus images of insignia, letters and instructions, a battle map for Monte Cassino, operations record book, photos of his squadrons and crew members, even shopping in uniform in Montreal. Superbly detailed, 272pp, illus.
