SEA VOYAGE: A Pop-Up Story

A sophisticated paper engineering pop-up book produced by publishers Thames & Hudson which reveals remarkable boats from an ocean liner and a three-masted tall ship to a lightship that guides the sailors safely home. Follow two sailors as they journey across the sea with their dog in this inventive and beautifully produced pop-up book. Along the way encounter extraordinary boats from all around the world starting with a pilot boat built in France in 1922 which drives on bravely through a gale. The waves lift up from the book, the sails and mast with a 3D effect of the large sailboat and the little one in front. The lifeboat on the next page comes to their rescue and there is an actual string rope as the page unfurls. The excitement continues as we see an ocean liner cutting through balmy seas, seagulls flying in the breeze and a seaplane passing in the clouds above, also in 3D effect. A remarkable book, very collectable and first time discounted, it is a touch of nostalgia that will appeal to children and adults alike. The author Gérard Lo Monaco is an Argentinian illustrator based in Paris very well known for his paper engineering of classics like 'The Little Prince'. 17 x 27cm, six pop-ups, all in colour.
