'Unicorns is a little gift book of cartoon unicorns and equally cartoony unicorn based phrases such as; "sorry I'm late - I saw a unicorn!', "you either believe in unicorns or you're wrong" and "I'd rather be a unicorn". "It is full of brilliant quotes and my favourite ones are probably "I poop rainbows" and "Unleash your inner Unicorn", though they are all brilliant, funny and catchy one - liners. The large letters are easy for children who learn to read and the colourful pictures are warm, funny and totally sweet." "It's a colourful bit of fun and would make a lovely gift for a little girl in the early stages of reading". Who says unicorns aren't real? Life's never dull when you have a unicorn by your side. These sparkly friends bring magic into our lives, from the tips of their magical horns to the swishy ends of their rainbow tails. Enter the awesomely cute world of tubby white unicorns, and whatever anyone says - don't stop believing! 6-8 year olds or adults! 14.61 x 14.61cm. The 96 pages are thick and easy to handle.

CARMILLA

Book number: 94126 Product format: Paperback Author: SHERIDAN LE FANU

In stock

Bibliophile price £6.50

Before Dracula there was Carmilla, a haunting, revolutionary tale of love and vampirism in the early 19th century. Nothing is what it seems when a wealthy English widower and his daughter Laura unexpectedly welcome the young Carmilla into their isolated Styrian castle. Although Laura is quickly charmed by Carmilla's grace and beauty, she thereafter falls victim to a strange, unidentifiable illness that threatens to take her life. And when an old family friend reappears to shed light on Carmilla's mysterious past, Laura realises her dear friend may prove deadly after all. The novel is testament to Le Fanu's extensive literary career and brilliant imagination, and has immortalised sensationalist romance-horror, much like the alluring vampiress herself. 128pp, new full price paperback.

ESSENTIAL BOOK OF SHAMANISM

Book number: 94130 Product format: Hardback Author: SUZANNE EDWARDS

In stock

Bibliophile price £9.99

Shamanism links us strongly to the Earth, the Heavens, everything around us and our own deeper layers. Through shamanic practice we can establish a connection that is beyond ourselves as we learn to journey, communicate with our guides, and receive guidance for ourselves to empower us. We open ourselves up to altered states of consciousness, which are liberating and healing and tap into abilities and resources from the world of spirit that go beyond the rational mind. The shaman is a doctor, medicine man or woman, social worker and priest or priestess in the community, highly revered and respected as they carry a position of great responsibility. They have the ability to enter trance states and travel within the spirit realms to find information or assistance from spirit helpers to solve problems within the community, to provide healing for the sick, and to assist with escorting lost souls of the dead to the afterlife. Historically alliances with spirits would be made to bring forth rain and help crops grow, and give information on where to find herds of animals. Shamans also presided over rites of passage such as birth, death, marriage and coming of age ceremonies. The contents of this beautiful gift edition with gilt embossed cover include The World Tree, Tools, Skills and Ceremony, Power Animals, Angels and Celestial Realms, Empowering Places and Death and Ancestors. Beautifully decorated with full page artworks, symbols and dotted with exercises for meditation and humming and more. New full price publication.

HAUNTER OF THE RING AND OTHER STORIES

Book number: 94135 Product format: Paperback Author: ROBERT E. HOWARD

In stock

Bibliophile price £6.99

Rattle of Bones, The Horror from the Mound, Skull-Face, Graveyard Rats, Wolfshead, The Thing on the Roof, Sea Curse, The Cairn of the Headland, The Fearsome Touch of Death and Dig Me No Grave are among the 17 Gothic short stories in this collection. Ranging from horror to supernatural terrors and chilling tales of insanity and death, these stories reveal the extraordinary talent and range of one of short fiction's most accomplished writers. Robert Ervin Howard (1906-1936) was one of the founders of the sword and sorcery genre and an influential figure in fantasy fiction. He created a range of iconic characters including Conan the Barbarian, the sombre Solomon Kane and the loveable sailor Steve Costigan, yet he was an accomplished horror writer and close confidante of H. P. Lovecraft and his stories have enthralled and chilled readers for generations. Much of his childhood was spent travelling through the small towns of Texas and absorbing the culture of a growing society. Here is a disconcerting werewolf tale, the Wild West to Medieval France and to the fantastical setting of Hyperborea and other fantasy landscapes. 382pp in new full price paperback.

ASTROLOGER:

Book number: 93895 Product format: Hardback Author: JAMES PARRIS

Bibliophile price £6.00
Published price £20

'He has great gifts as a psychologist and excellent insight into the Continental mind.' In the darkest days of the Second World War, with Europe falling under German occupation in 1935 and Britain facing invasion, a 36-year-old refugee from the Nazis, Louis de Wohl, made a curious offer to British Intelligence. His popular autobiography was filled with name dropping of minor European royalty and Hollywood moguls. Based on the widely-held belief that Hitler's every action was guided by his horoscope, de Wohl claimed he could reveal precisely what advice the Fuhrer's astrologers were giving him. Rather than being dismissed out of hand as a crank, Churchill could see de Wohl's worth for himself. He was subsequently made an army captain and quartered in the Grosvenor House Hotel, from where he passed detailed astrological readings to the War Office and Naval Intelligence, before being transferred to work for the SOE in the United States. Was it possible that senior military and naval intelligence officers could take the ancient and arcane practice of astrology seriously? Was de Wohl genuine or merely a charlatan and imposter? When he began his involvement with MI5 in 1938 and British Intelligence in 1940 he was already a successful practising astrologer to London's 'great and good.' James Parris examines the evidence, including recently released files, and reaches remarkable conclusions about this bizarre aspect of the war. Archive photos, 288 pages.

Once an alternative doorway into radical culture, LSD is now being re-examined for its possible mental health benefits. Sub-titled 'Classic Selections from The Psychedelic Review, The Revolutionary 1960s Forum of Psychopharmacological Substances'. Half a century ago, the world changed forever when a Swiss chemist inadvertently ingested the experimental compound lysergic acid diethylamide. Many scientists expected LSD's radically psychoactive chemicals to revolutionise mainstream culture. The Psychedelic Review was founded in 1963 as a serious journal dedicated to the study of the potential of both natural and synthesized psychedelic substances. Presenting experts in the fields of anthropology, religion, pharmacology, poetry, and metaphysics, this pioneering journal had a dramatic impact on its times. Today, the benefits of LSD and other psychoactive drugs in treating depression, anxiety disorders, and PTSD have sparked renewed research. The Psychedelic Reader offers a relevant guidebook to the foundations of a bold new era in mental health studies. Luminaries such as Alan Watts, Timothy Leary, Sir Julian Huxley, and Ralph Metzner contribute insights on a variety of fascinating and controversial subjects. From precise dosage guidelines to ruminations on the poetry of Herman Hesse, this powerful anthology presents the entire psychedelic spectrum with both the seriousness and open-mindedness it deserves. 256 page paperback.
