A New York Times bestseller, we couldn't resist this very cheeky little green man to bring to a British audience. The night is dark, the streets are quiet, St Patrick's Day is near. I tap my hammer so you'll know the Leprechaun is here! I'll pull all your laces, put glitter in your hair. And when you walk around, you'll see my GOLD coins everywhere. You'll never catch me in your trap, but, yes, I'll make a scene! I'll turn your whole place upside down. Your toilet will be green! Setting traps around your house, the very naughty Leprechaun is only seen by his green hat as he does his fancy pantsy dancy twinkle toes escapes, causing havoc around the house. Without a four-leaf clover you don't stand a chance. Better luck next year! Ages four and up with bold colourful illustrations by Andy Elkerton. Colour board book.

COMPLETE MAPP & LUCIA: Volume One

Book number: 65528 Product format: Paperback Author: E.F. BENSON

In stock

Bibliophile price £4.00

Lucia is one of the great comic characters in English literature. Outrageously pretentious, hypocritical and snobbish, Queen Lucia, 'as by right divine' rules over the toy kingdom of 'Riseholme' based on the Cotswold village of Broadway. Her long-suffering husband Pepino is 'her prince-consort', the outrageously camp Georgie is her 'gentleman-in-waiting', the village green is her 'parliament', and her subjects, such as Daisy Quantock, are hapless would-be 'Bolsheviks'. In Lucia in London, the prudish, manically ambitious Lucia launches herself into the louche world of London society. Her earnest determination to learn all about 'modern movements' makes her the perfect comic vehicle for Benson's free-wheeling satire of salon societ, and of the dominant fads and movements of the 1920s, including vegetarianism, yoga, palmistry, Freudianism, séances, Post-Impressionist art and Christian Science. Meanwhile in Tilling, clearly modelled on Benson's home town of Rye, Miss Mapp consumed by 'chronic rage and curiosity' sits at her window, armed with her light-opera glasses keeping baleful watch on her neighbours. 'Anger and the gravest suspicions about everybody had kept her young and on the boil': and Benson transmutes her boiling into a series of small humiliations in his witty, malicious comedy. In his insightful Introduction Keith Carabine appreciates Benson's humour whether droll, farcical, excruciatingly malicious, his 'camp' treatment of sex and his moral vision. Titles in volume one are Queen Lucia, Miss Mapp and Lucia in London. 632 page paperback. New from Wordsworth.

Bibliophile price £3.00

Themed round the allure of alcohol, these 27 short stories range from the grisly to the completely hilarious and are a wonderful read. Dorothy Parker's "You were perfectly fine" shows a young woman reassuring her boyfriend that he didn't make a complete fool of himself when paralytically drunk, culminating in her expressions of delight at his marriage proposal and leaving the reader, together with the young man himself, to guess whether the proposal really happened. Edgar Allen Poe's classic story "The Cask of Amontillado" is a dark and horrific tale of revenge. An extract from Kingsley Amis's Lucky Jim depicts the scene where Jim is the weekend guest of his boss and is appalled to wake up surrounded by burnt sheets, deducing that he must have fallen asleep with a lit cigarette. Samuel Beckett's "Ding Dong" is the tale of his friend Belacqua's progress through the watering holes of Dublin, culminating in his extraordinary encounter with a mesmerising female beggar in purple. "Jeeves and the Unbidden Guest" by P. G. Wodehouse shows the Master Fixer in superb form, getting rid of Aunt Agatha's embarrassing son Motty and doing a deal with Bertie regarding a regrettably pink tie. P.G. Wodehouse and Kingsley Amis; Charles Jackson and Jean Rhys chronicle liquor-soaked epiphanies; while John Cheever, Vladimir Nabokov, and Robert Coover set their characters afloat on surreal, soul-revealing adventures. Other writers include Charles Dickens, Alice Munro, Penelope Lively, Doris Lessing, Damon Runyon, Roald Dahl, and every story is a gem. 393pp, Everyman Pocket Classic. Remainder mark.

Welcome leopard-lovers to this totally roarsome book about the evolution of leopard-print fashion, learn a few leopard-themed jokes, or plan a party fit for a spot-obsessed friend, on a journey from the age of the silver screen, through punk via glam rock to today's influencer-obsessed fast-fashion culture. Learn how the trend for wearing real fur was overtaken by luscious silks and expensive gowns created to showcase these spotted designs, and how leopard print is constantly evolved and adapted to suit the fashions of the day. Get creative and make leopard print cakes and cookies. Kids will love the Hide and Seek Bread and Spotted Jelly, the easy-peasy leopard face paint will make fancy dress parties a doddle for adults and kids, and for a touch of class in a glass, try out the spot painting technique. Facts, fiction and philosophy, read about the majestic snow leopard, analyse your leopard dreams and even learn a proverb or two. Have you heard about the leopard that lost its spots or the unusual strawberry-coloured leopard that's been sighted in South Africa? Which celebrity includes a leopard-print rug in their rider? Crazy quotes, silly jokes for all fellow feline friends. Big colourful graphic designed pages with large text, this is a favourite of our Chrissie here at the Bibliophile office. Remainder mark, 128pp.

Prepare to be shocked! Much nudity and intimate erogenous zones photographed close up, some people strike the weirdest poses whether on the toilet, in soiled underwear, close ups of nipples, a bottom with a sunflower inserted, tight pants, underwear, fishnets, pubic hair, piercings, splashes of blood, tattoos, this bunch of colour photographs was removed from the famous social media platform Instagram. The editors 'quickly began to see patterns in the types of images that had been subjected to censorship. These include photographs of genitalia, bare butts, female nipples, period stains, liquids resembling semen or vaginal secretions, pubic hair.' The images shared by Bystrom and Soda are photographs of their own, perhaps other female bodies, naked, splattered with paint, partially clothed, awkwardly sexualised, self-portraits which are 'exhibitionistic' or 'narcissistic', or are they? Includes transgender. 300 pages, colour photos.
