ILLUSTRATED BOOK OF GENESIS: The Complete Text

EDITED BY MICHELLE PICKERING    Book Number: 80857    Product format: Hardback

The first book of the Old Testament is entitled 'The First Book of Moses', commonly called Genesis. The first five books known as The Pentateuch or Torah are traditionally attributed to Moses, but they are in fact an anonymous work. This glorious book features the complete text of Genesis and is illustrated with a selection of beautiful works of art from Old Master paintings and frescoes to stained glass and illuminations. God first creates man and woman, then the animals and the whole Universe over the course of six days. Tintoretto, Lucas Cranach the Elder (Adam and Eve 1526), Cain Killing Abel by Albertinelli 1510, the animals leaving the arc, the Tower of Babel, a beautiful full page woodcut by Gustave Doré The Burial of Sarah, Isaac blessing Jacob, the massacre of the Shechenites from a French illuminated bible, are among the many examples. From the Flemish school here are the stories of Abraham, Sarah and their son Isaac, the account of the destruction of Sodom, and how Lot's wife became a pillar of salt, the original Jacob's Ladder and the much-love tale of Joseph and his 'coat of many colours'. 128 large pages, colour throughout.
