ELIZABETH: A Celebration in Photographs

ELIZABETH: A Celebration in Photographs

JENNIE BOND    Book Number: 90106    Product format: Hardback

The longest serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth II became only the second British monarch to reach a Diamond Jubilee in 2012. She was crowned at Westminster Abbey in front of 8,000 guests on 2nd June 1953. In a radio broadcast following her coronation, the Queen said: 'Throughout all my life and with all my heart I shall strive to be worthy of your trust.' Throughout the years she has travelled the world meeting thousands of people in an exhausting and relentless career. Each decade has presented her with new challenges as society and people's perception of the monarchy has changed. Capturing every detail of her astonishing reign from the 1950s when young and pretty she was seen around the world as a fairytale queen, through the 1960s as a young mother and in a new spirit of openness, giving television viewers a glimpse of royal life in the groundbreaking documentary The Royal Family. In the 1970s she celebrated her Silver Jubilee and the 80s attention began to focus on the young Princess Diana. Then came the dark days of the 1990s with the disintegration of more than one royal marriage and Diana's untimely death in 1997. In our new century we saw the Queen celebrate her Golden Jubilee. The River Pageant, despite appalling weather, saw 20,000 people take to the water in a thousand boats of all shapes and sizes. Page 205 is our favourite - you will see why. Remembrance services, sporting events, with her Royal Chaplains, on walkabout, at military events, on parade and at home, on horseback and with the corgis, the array of colourful and vintage photographs present a remarkable life in pictures. 224 very large pages.
