SWING DANCE

SWING DANCE

SCOTT CUPIT    Book Number: 88735    Product format: Hardback

Strictly Come Dancing may be back on our TV screens, but one thing they have missed is the fashion, music, culture and key moves of Swing Dance, the wonderful Lindy Hop we all love to watch. Truly swinging back into style, it is a joyful, high-energy dance that originated in 1920s Harlem, now rediscovered at vintage festivals, tea dances, weekend socials and hundreds of weekly classes in cities around the world. Here are all the most popular dance styles - Charleston, Collegiate Shag, Balboa and Lindy Hop with all the tunes that go with them like Shiny Stockings by Count Basie, Flying Home by Lionel Hampton, Take the 'A' Train by Duke Ellington, Bugle Call Rag by Benny Goodman, Opus No.1 by Tommy Dorsey and more. Learn the posture, rhythm, hand and back connection and swing out for leads and for those who follow. Get the look by learning about the fashion, 1940s neck ties and bow ties, and for ladies how to tie the large square headscarf with huge bow at the front, to make queue curls and victory rolls for the hair, the vintage make-up look with wide eyes. Scan the QR codes using your smartphone to watch video demonstrations as we tap, step, kick along to the lollies and enjoy both period and vintage photographs, stills from movies like Jive Junction of 1943, watch performers and teachers of today in action in colour photographs and musicians shuffling out their rhythms. Finally learn to dance jazz steps from the Shim Sham in this tranky doody boogie woogie of a book. 192 big beautiful pages, packed with photos and dance step moves. Colour. Would go great with our 'Kings & Queens of Swing CD', code 88348.

Very weak content. - historically and in dance steps eg nothing of more intricate moves and absolutely no illustrations of throws.
