CORINA FLETCHER    Book Number: 88665    Product format: Unknown

A companion to code 87890 Archipops: Bridges, here the finest paper engineering on quality white card which literally pops into 3D. Six of the world's most remarkable landmarks are seen in a new perspective. The buildings are Bauhaus by Walter Gropius built 1925-6 in Dessau, Germany. Founded in 1919 in Weimar, the architect of this new building shows constructive elements via a suspended glass curtain wall. Villa Savoye by Le Corbusier (1931) in Poissy, France had a profound and lasting influence on architecture. The modernist villa originally built as a private is now recognised as a classic example of the International Style. The Pompidou Centre built by Piano + Rogers (1977) in Paris shows the High Tech style. When Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers unveiled their innovative, inside-out design for a cultural centre, initial reactions were less than warm. Today the building is a much loved, an instantly recognisable landmark of Paris. The external pipes and air ducts pop from the notecard. The Guggenheim located in New York's Upper East Side opposite Central Park is a temple of modern art, built by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1959. Its spiral form makes it one of the most recognised buildings in the world and the semi-circular shape literally pops towards your eyeballs. Sydney Opera House by Jorn Utzon 1973 and Royal Festival Hall by the architect Leslie Martin 1951 need no further explanation from us. All are exquisitely constructed from sturdy card, one each of six designs with bright white envelopes just over 8" wide by 6", boxed for safe keeping.
