VICTORIAN HORSES & CARRIAGES: A Personal Sketch Book

VICTORIAN HORSES & CARRIAGES: A Personal Sketch Book

WILLIAM FRANCIS FREELOVE    Book Number: 87434    Product format: Hardback

A Hansom Cab, a Fishmonger's Cart, an open Landau with four parasoled passengers, a four-wheeled cab, a brewer's dray with two rather exhausted looking riders, a pair horse waggonette, ice cart, a pair horse hooded phaeton, a chaotic looking Cheap Jack's van and an estate carriage are among the 27 lively watercolours chosen from 70 contemporary horse drawn vehicles painted by William Francis Freelove (1846-1920). He enjoyed sketching the extraordinary variety of horses, carts and carriages that he observed in Kingston-upon-Thames Surrey in the years up to 1873 and his collection was found lying neglected in an attic. This beautiful small publication is a 1979 first edition with selling price from the times stickered on the jacket of £1.95! 5" x 4¼".
