BURNS SUPPER COMPANION

BURNS SUPPER COMPANION

NANCY MARSHALL    Book Number: 87327    Product format: Paperback

Celebrated every year on 25th January by countless people across the world, Burns Night is a delicious ritual. It was in 1801 that some five people after Robert Burns' death, the poet's friends, sat down to dinner in what is now known as Burns Cottage in Alloway to celebrate his extraordinary life and to give thanks for his friendship. Over the years the informal theme of that evening developed into today's Burns Supper. Our book includes a biography of the poet, poems, songs and quotations, sample speeches and even a recipe for haggis. One of his songs is an everlasting reminder of Peggy Kennedy's suffering, another is titled Willie Brew'd A Peck o'Maut, the lyric of which was added to a tune. One of his best works and a must for most suppers is the poem 'To A Mouse' written with simplicity and tenderness. They are reproduced in full in this 144 page paperback. Line art.
