PATCHWORK FOR BEGINNERS

PATCHWORK FOR BEGINNERS

SUE PRICHARD    Book Number: 86126    Product format: Hardback

A V&A publishing book in collaboration with the Museum which takes as inspiration such items as an embroidered needle case from 1700, pin cushions and purses from 1600, a coverlet from 1829 and illustrations for the cover of Girl's Own Annual by Kate Greenaway, an embroidered casket, an album of dress materials kept by Barbara Johnson 1746-1823 and other designs. The book begins with a history of patchwork, getting started and creating your work box, all about fabric, developing your skills and the five projects are a Hexagon Pincushion, Square Cushion Cover and Pad, Windmill Cot Coverlet, Appliqué and Unusual Patterns and Materials. Inspiration may come from the fire grate designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Glasgow, 1904, or from the bedroom of a doll's house, German, 1920-30. The cot quilts and coverlets are particularly beautiful and tips are to add some beautiful strip binding or spell out the baby's name or a word like LOVE. With templates to scan and reproduce, fully illustrated in colour photographs with diagrams and space for your own notes and there is further information on specialist shops. From exotic geometric floor tiles and stunning patchwork, unleash your own hidden design talent. 64 large pages.
