DOUGH PORTRAITS

DOUGH PORTRAITS

SOREN DAHLGAARD    Book Number: 85813    Product format: Hardback

Imagine enough dough kneaded (!) for three or four loaves and while all gooey, dropping it on top of the head so that it stretches all the way down the face and over the chin of your portrait models. Extraordinary. Some looking like aliens, there are women old and young in summer clothes, a chef and ordinary workmen, locals on paradise beaches in the Maldives or looking like they are waiting patiently in the artist's studios. These are very special and idiosyncratic artworks and when exhibited, reactions differ worldwide. With hundreds of models, the project took place in three separate locations in Pristina, in the artist's private garden, in a school and in front of an art gallery. The schoolchildren had a lot of fun, and we laughed uproariously on seeing these sticky results. In the art world they are regarded as sculptural studies where every trace of recognisability is illuminated and the individual is buried in the liberating anonymity of the dough. Quite heavy, it weighed 10 kilos, a touch, resilient mass sliding from the top of the head and pulled down by gravity. This playful sculpture is seen in Denmark, Vancouver, Kosovo, the Maldives, Warsaw, Israel, Hong Kong, Brazil, Helsinki, the photographers' gallery London and all the way to Australia. With an explanation of the pose and process and mixing disciplines. 256 very large pages 9" x 12". Hundreds of colour photos. Limited stock.
