PICCADILLY CIRCUS FROM BOAT RACE DAY WRITING SET

ERIC RAVILIOUS    Book Number: 85721    Product format: Unknown

The famous artist, designer and illustrator Eric Ravilious (1903-1942) produced this dramatic outlined image of Eros and a busy Piccadilly Circus for the Wedgwood Museum, Staffs. There is advertising for Guinness, Bass, Bovril and Schweppes, the number 96 bus is trundling by, and outlined silhouette figures crowd up the sweeping steps at the rear of the omnibus and onto the top open platform of the bus advertising Palladium. A caped and helmeted traffic policeman stands in the foreground of this crosshatch woodcut illustration reproduced in an oval shape and with pale orange wash to depict the bright lights of the scene. The set comprises ten sheets of quality writing with simple small Eros design at the top and ten white envelopes. The writing paper is antique cream.
