GREAT BRITISH PUB DOGS
Bibliophile price: £3.25
Pubs and dogs just seem to go together; invariably, when you enter a pub there will be a dog lolling under a chair whilst its owner enjoys a tipple or three. Sometimes, though, the dog is a pub resident, always there to welcome customers as they come through the door, and, at least in one case, to prevent them leaving! This selection of doggy delights covers many breeds from a tiny Yorkiepoo to a ginormous Saint Bernard. Each dog featured has its photo alongside a selection of questions, answered by the owner rather than the dog itself, just in case you were wondering. Rolo is a four-year-old boxer who lives at the Red Lion Theatre Pub, North London. He's very laid back, and loves 'Anything that squeaks, then destroying it till it squeaks no more'. Then there is Matilda, the tiny Yorkiepoo at the Baum, Rochdale, who loves underwear. She hides it and even puts it on herself. Hoppy, a cute West Highland terrier resides at the Hammerton Brewery, Kings Cross, and is head of security and vermin scarer. She is determined, expressive and silly, and loves her toy rat, while Fudge, a whippet at the Pump Room Brewery, Halifax, tucks her toy baby racoon into bed each night, buries custard creams (as well as once an electric razor) in the back garden. And she is the spitting image of our Lottie! One for all dog-lovers, and, as one owner said, 'A pub makes more sense when there's a dog snuggled under the table or by the fireplace.' Collies, bulldogs, labs of course, terriers, spaniels, Jack Russells, all with tons of character. 128pp. Colour and b/w photos.
