EPISODE TWO: CALKE ABBEY DVD

THE NATIONAL TRUST    Book Number: 82858    Product format: Unknown

A Baroque mansion situated near Derby, Calke Abbey's construction began in 1701. Set in a stunning landscaped park, it has become famous as a graphic illustration of the English country house in decline. Little restored, the house contains the spectacular natural history collection of the Harpur Creue family with stags and bulls heads adorning the walls, taxidermy and stuffed creatures in cabinets of curiosity and more besides. There is a magnificent 18th century state bed and interiors are essentially unchanged since the 1880s. The attractive grounds feature a beautiful walled garden, flower garden, physics garden and Auricula Theatre and garden buildings. 60 minute colour film.
