OLD POSSUM'S BOOK OF PRACTICAL CATS: Book and 2 CDs

T. S. ELIOT    Book Number: 81322    Product format: Hardback

'I have a Gumbie Cat in mind, her name is Jennyanydots; Her coat is of the tabby kind, with tiger stripes and leopard spots.' First published in 1939, this collection of playful poems about cats was inspired by letters from T. S. Eliot to his godchildren. As we know, after delighting cat devotees worldwide, the poems formed the basis of the highly successful musical Cats, by Andrew Lloyd Webber, which opened in London in 1981. From Growltiger (a Bravo Cat, who travelled on a barge) to Mr Mistoffelees (the Original Conjuring Cat), from Bustopher Jones (who is NOT skin and bones) to Skimbleshanks the Railway Cat who is so important that without him the train just won't start, all the poems are here in this book, which bears the famed black cats' eyes design on the cover as used for the publicity posters of the show. The Marching Song of the Pollicle Dogs and The Story of Grizabella were discovered among the unpublished writing of T. S. Eliot and the prologue is based from another unpublished poem entitled Pollicle Dogs and Jellicle Cats. This special edition has delightful quirky cartoon illustrations by Rebecca Ashdown and contains two CDs of the original 1981 cast recording of the musical. Bliss. 118pp. Mono illus. Two CDs.
