LES MISÉRABLES By VICTOR HUGO

ONE OF THE GREATEST NOVELS OF THE NINETEENTH CENTURY IS SET TO BECOME A MODERN-DAY CINEMATIC PHENOMENON PREMIERING ON 11th JANUARY 2013

Les Misérables will soon be transformed into a British musical film. The on-screen version is based on the musical of the same name which is, in turn, based on Les Misérables, the 1862 French novel by Victor Hugo. Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe have been cast as the leading men but unlike many films, the supporting roles are not to be sniffed at either. Staring alongside the aforementioned are the likes of Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, and Helena Bonham Carter.

LES MISÉRABLES  VOLUME ONE: ISBN - 9781853260858 code 23805 Pages: 528  VOLUME TWO: ISBN - 9781853260506 code 23806 Pages: 512 Price: £2 each

With an Introduction and Notes by Roger Clark, University of Kent at Canterbury. Translation by Charles E. Wilbour (1862).

Characters such as the absurdly criminalised Valjean, the street urchin Gavroche, the rascal Thenardier, the implacable detective Javert, and the pitiful figure of the prostitute Fantine and her daughter Cosette, have entered the pantheon of literary dramatis personae. The reader is also treated to the unforgettable descriptions of the Battle of Waterloo and Valjean’s flight through the Paris sewers. There are two volumes to this classic tale.
